Start with the true cost
Add up materials, packaging and the hidden extras such as waste, dye lots and failed attempts. Then add your labour at an hourly rate you would accept for the same time in another job. A product that cannot cover both is not a business yet.
Add overhead and fees
Overhead covers the costs of running a stall or shop: tools, insurance, listing fees, payment processing and marketing. Marketplace commissions can take a surprising share of every sale, so price with those fees included rather than absorbing them.
Choose a pricing strategy
Cost-plus pricing guarantees a margin but ignores what customers will pay. Market-based pricing looks at comparable products. Many makers use cost-plus as a floor and market pricing to set the final figure, aiming for a retail price at least double the material cost.
